Maccheroni Ristorante - Bucureşti, România - visited 27/10/2011
It was one of those restaurants found by a stroke of luck, a chance, the one you would never expect to find after a long stroll on a chilly evening through crowded narrow streets of downtown of Bucharest. When you almost loose hope that there's anything that can fit your expectations - here it is.. you see a sign and you just feel it in you guts - it's going to be a great one. The place is quite small, not even 10 tables in total, but very cozy. Middle-aged waiter, who we assumed was the owner of the restaurant, was serving us in the most polite and sensitive manner. Restaurant seems to be a family owned business - it's only a guess, but older women, who was cooking, is most likely a mother and a main chef, the one who is running the whole show.
My initial choise for an appeteizer was beef carpaccio, as I'm a big fan, but they were out, so i decided on a shrimp coctail with lemon sauce instead... and it was the best thing that could actually happen! I've had my portion of shrimp throughout my life, but these particulars were the softest, had the richest taste and were just perfect.

For main course the choice was simple - fresh mussles in white wine and garlic - also exceptional. As a side dish I ordered spinach, as recently I'm on a big spinach kick, it was fantastic as well, I would even add more garlic to it, but even so I was very pleased.

Everything was made even better by sipping on italian Chardonay (unfrotunately I can't remember the exact name of the wine). And of course to finish the perfect diner - delicious dessert, there was only one choice for that night, but that only means that everything is made on this particular day, fresh and with passion!
So, if one day you happen to find yourself in downtown Bucharest - I encourage you to find this little place and dine there.. and hopefully you'll be left as delighted as I was that evening.
